Well, they are at it again — the courts (i.e. judicial activists), that is. They absolutely insist on leading our nation into further rebellion against the will of God. A court in New York recently ruled that state’s ban on same-sex marriage to be illegal.
It was not that long ago that we watched in horror as officials in San Francisco and other places opened the floodgates. As a direct result of their failure to respect overwhelming public opinion, standing public policy and, more importantly, the authority of the Creator, abomination abounds. Renegade civic leaders across the country have errantly given thousands of homosexual couples approval to “marry”, with complete disregard for both civil and divine authority. Their actions constitute anarchy against nation and God.
While there is plenty that could and should be said about the failures of our nation’s courts, current public policy, and the homosexual community’s rebellion against the rule of law, I will leave that to another writer. This is not a political column. It is, however, the purpose of this column to encourage spirituality in its audience. We would do well to review what God has to say about proper human sexual relations.
God did not create man for man or woman for woman. In His divine and perfect wisdom, He established the order of human sexual relationships. “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27). “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). Jesus Himself affirmed these facts when He said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh…” (Matthew 19:4-6). God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve! While that is a tired and dated expression, it nonetheless expresses the truth regarding God’s creation.
Because God set forth the proper order of human sexual relations (man and woman, husband and wife), He repeatedly and clearly condemns homosexuality as a perversion of His creation! The sins of Sodom and Gomorrah were “exceedingly grave” in the Lord’s eyes (Genesis 18:20), and an examination of Genesis 19:1-29 reveals the nature of their sins – the men of Sodom asked Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have relations with them” (verse 5). Later, God told Israel, “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22). Also, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them” (Leviticus 20:13). And be fully assured, the Lord has not changed how He feels regarding such since the days of Moses: “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, not adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
The writer of Ecclesiastes said, “...God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices” (7:29). This is certainly true. God clearly condemns homosexuality, and He doesn’t make men or women unrighteous (James 1:13). Those who practice homosexuality have sought out this abomination for their lives and will suffer the consequences, regardless of what the world around us might say. The truth of God’s Word is clear — Homosexuality is Sin!
